Hayward Animal Shelter

The Hayward Animal Services Bureau provides animal field and shelter services for the City of Hayward. The shelter is open for adoptions, recovering lost pets, intake of stray dogs, and other services.

Our Story:

The Hayward Animal Shelter provides shelter and field services for the City of Hayward. Opening in 1975, the shelter has proudly served the city for 48 years! The volunteers, staff, and animals welcome you.

Our Services:

The incorporated City of Hayward is the service area for Hayward Animal Services Bureau. The shelter is open for adoptions, turning in stray dogs, recovering lost pets, and other services.

HASB is dedicated to improving the lives of all the animals within the City, but especially the sick/homeless pets that come into our care. Hayward Animal Services provides animal field and shelter services for the City of Hayward. The Hayward Animal Shelter is open for adoptions, turning in stray dogs, recovering lost pets, and other services.

 

Hayward Animal Shelter takes in stray dogs and we arrange appointments for owner-surrendered animals within the City of Hayward. We often have dogs, cats, and rabbits available for adoption and occasionally other small animals as well.  If you are missing an animal please visit the shelter in person to fill out a lost pet report.

We are dedicated to improving the lives of all animals during their stay at the shelter and helping them improve their chances of getting adopted.

The list of animal emergencies to which Animal Control Officers respond includes:

  • Vicious animals and attacks

  • Sick and injured animals

  • Animals in severe distress

  • Animal cruelty in progress

  • Animals causing a severe traffic hazard

To report an emergency, call the Animal Service Bureau at 510.293.7200 and follow the instructions. You will be connected with an emergency dispatcher who will determine the priority level of the call, advise you of options, and dispatch a field unit if necessary. You will be asked to provide the following information:

  • Exact location of the incident

  • Circumstances of the incident

  • Description of the animal

  • Owner of the animal, if known

  • Your name, address and phone number
